Australian Poetry Slam 2008

Following on from the phenomenally successful SLAM in 2007, we are again looking for Australia’s most talented Slam Poets.

We’ll be hitting cities and towns throughout the nation in order to find the best performance poets Australia has to offer.

The Australian Poetry Slam is open to all!  Whether you’re a performance poet, a serious actor or someone who just likes to get up on stage and give it a go, we are looking for you.

Slam heats will be held in city centres and regional venues across Australia between August and November 2008. Two finalists from each slam heat will compete in their state’s final, and the two top point scorers from each state final will get the opportunity to travel to Sydney in December to battle it out for the NATIONALtitle, and more than $10,000 in cash and prizes.

Contestants are given a mic, a live audience and just two minutes to impress the judges (selected at random at each heat) with their original spoken word, poetry, hip hop, monologues and stories.

In 2007 Victorian poet, Marc Testart, won the National Slam title and a gig at Sydney’s famous Opera House!

Local spoken-word artists from each participating state and territory will host the slam heats and state finals, as well as entertain audiences with their own word artistry.
